NHS Health at Home
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak means you should stay at home as much as possible, but it’s still easy to get NHS help using your smartphone, tablet or computer. Please visit this link for more information https://www.nhs.uk/health-at-home/
It is very important that you still contact your GP surgery if you are unwell and attend appointments at the hospital for ongoing treatments unless you have been told not to.
You must still go to hospital in a serious or life-threatening medical emergency, or if you are feeling very unwell, but please ensure you follow Coronavirus guidance before attending A&E.
If you are attending the practice for a face to face appointment or to collect prescriptions please ensure you wear a face covering or mask. We will not be able to supply you with a face mask as we have limited access to PPE and have to ensure we keep it to protect our Practice team.

Treatment Room Appointments
Please be aware we are now booking up to 2-3 weeks in advance for routine appointments such as Cervical screening, bloods/ INRs, ECGs and immunisations. A reminder to patients to please call us if you are unable to make your appointment as failure to attend wastes our GPs/Nurses time and our PPE.
If you are feeling unwell please send someone else to collect your prescription from the surgery to reduce unnecessary risk and please ensure when attending to collect that a face covering or mask is worn.

Domestic Abuse Campaign
The Home Office is running a domestic abuse campaign, raising awareness of the support and advice currently available. They are grateful for all the support received so far from the NHS stakeholders and would appreciate if you could share the campaign assets with your networks and include a link on your website to the campaign page: gov.uk/domestic-abuse. What does Armada Family Practice Offer?
Our First Contact Practitioner Service offers specialist musculoskeletal assessments for a variety of problems. This commonly includes:
- Low back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Knee pain
- Hip pain
- Tennis elbow
- Hand pain
- Planter Fasciitis and foot pain
We have a particular interest in injection therapy (steroids and anaesthetics). This treatment has proven popular with our patients. They are now able to access quick timely injections, which have helped improve their quality of life significantly.
As part of the service we can also provide patients with simple exercises and advise. This can be very helpful in the early stages of their recovery. Discussing and prescribing certain medications is also available within the service.
Our service is very easy to access. Simple call Armada Family Practice on 01275 832285 and ask to book a telephone consultation with a First Contact Practitioner and we will be happy to help.

Patient Access allows you to order your repeat prescriptions and book GP appointments online. You will need to ask for your registration details at reception, please bring photo ID to do this. When you have your registration document click on the 'Patient Access' icon below. Enter the details in the registration area.
Please note our online bookable routine appointments are released at 8am and 2pm weekdays.
The registration will need to be completed within 14 days of asking for the document otherwise the information will expire. If this happens you will have to come back in with your ID and ask for a new one.
GP appointments are now available in your area during the evenings and at the weekend. To book an appointment, contact your practice.

Prescribing of over the counter medicines is changing
Your GP, nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor health concerns. Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community. The team of health professionals at your local pharmacy can offer help and clinical advice to manage minor health concerns and if your symptoms suggest it’s more serious, they’ll ensure you get the care you need.Please help the NHS to use resources sensibly.
You may still be prescribed a medicine for a condition on the list if:
• You need treatment for a long-term condition, e.g. regular pain relief for chronic arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease.
• You need treatment for more complex forms of minor illnesses e.g. migraines that are very bad and where over the counter medicines do not work.
• You need an over the counter medicine to treat a side effect of a prescription medicine or symptom of another illness, e.g. constipation when taking certain painkillers.
• The medicine has a licence which doesn’t allow the product to be sold over the counter to certain groups of patients. This could include babies, children or women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
• The person prescribing thinks that a patient cannot treat themselves, for example because of mental health problems or severe social vulnerability.
Care Navigation is an NHS initiative supporting active signposting in General Practice.
You may wonder why you are being asked questions like 'What is the reason for your call today?' or 'Can you give me a brief outline of the problem?' when enquiring at Reception for an appointment. Self Care and Over the Counter Medicine
As individuals it is important that we are educated on how we can look after minor ailments that may come our way at home. The practice of Self Care helps to teach us how we manage these and if required, at what point we seek medical attention, should this be from a pharmacy, nurse practitioner or a GP.
